The benefits of cbd oil on hair is overwhelming. CBD oil is packed with amino acids and antioxidants that all contribute to making our hair look thicker, cut down on breakage as well as protect and treat our hair from environmental pollutants and damage.
But let’s ask the unavoidable question.
What is CBD?
Cannabidiol (CBD), popularly known as hemp, is a chemical in the cannabis flower. The Cannabis flower contains Tetrahydrocannabioil (THC) and Cannabidoil (CBD).
THC and CBD
Difference between THC and CBD
Tetrahydrocannabioil (THC) is the psychoactive ingredient of Cannabis. That means THC is the component in cannabis that makes one high. You can find THC in marijuana, a type of cannabis flower.
Cannabidoil (CBD) is the anti-psychoactive ingredient, meaning you do not become high from it. You can find CBD in hemp flower, which is also low in THC.
Seeing as this is an ultimate guide post, I also want to point out that cannabis is expected to be a $22 billion industry by 2023. As of January 2022, the cannabis plant is still an illegal drug in Nigeria with the Nigerian National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) going after all retail shops dispensing Cannabis cookies.
Where is CBD found in Nigeria?
The hemp plant is grown in some parts of Nigeria including Lagos State, Edo State, Delta State, Osun State, Oyo State, and Ogun State due to the thriving tropical climate. Although the plant grows wildly in Nigeria, and notwithstanding its ban, globally, Nigeria is one of the major consumers of the product according to the Telegraph. Nonetheless, many other countries have adopted and modified cannabis to help treat chronic treatments. In the Czech Republic, there are many malls that house CBD vending machines. And in the U.S., a specific form of CBD is approved as a drug in the U.S. to combat seizure.

Is hemp oil the same as CBD oil?
Hemp has historically been attractive for its top-quality fiber and edible oil. “Hemp oil” is another way that people can refer to CBD oil.
Although hemp oil and hemp seed oil are not the same.
While hemp oil or CBD oil is produced from the stalks, leaves, and flowers of the hemp plant and contains a higher concentration of CBD, a compound with innumerable latent health benefits.
Hemp seed oil, on the other hand, is extracted from the seeds of the Cannabis sativa plant. they do not contain CBD. nonetheless, they, as well have useful bioactive compounds that can also have health benefits.
Benefits of CBD on hair:
CBD oil has been shown to improve sleep and reducing anxiety but it also has some positive impacts on the scalp and hair follicles. CBD oil includes anti-inflammatory properties and elevates cerebral blood circulation, as such it helps to speed hair growth and reduce shedding. CBD contains the perfect ratio of polyunsaturated omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids which help with thickening of hair.
CBD oil is known to condition your scalp and hair. Together with Vitamin-E and fatty acids in CBD oil, they work as an emollient. Meaning that they help to retain water in the hair while offering a softening effect on your hair.
And I can tell you for a fact, if there’s any hair texture that needs emollient it’s my African type 4C prone to dry and tangle-easy hair.
Hair products that contain CBD
CBD can be found in many of our hair care products including shampoos, conditioners, and hair creams and oils. But the name on the products ingredients list does not go by CBD. instead you will probably see hemp oil or cannabidoil written on it.
What do people use it for?
CBD oil is found to be effective when applied topically that means applying it directly has more profound effects than when taking orally.
And as earlier explained, consumers can reap health benefits from the plant without the fear of becoming high. In ancient times, the Greeks used it to apply on wounded horses.
These days, cbd oil is used to relieve anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder as well as ease pain.
In the beauty world, it is used to improve acne, reduce eczema, and hair regrowth.
Research on CBD and Hair regrowth:
A 2021 research proved that CBD can help people with alopecia regrow their hair by a whopping average of 93% hair growth rate.
The study was conducted over 6 months with 35 volunteers participating in the research. CBD was applied topically to their hair and every participant except one showed hair regrowth raging from as low as 27% to over 300%. The men participants showed more effective results than the women. Out of all participants, none showed any adverse reactions to using CBD on their hair. The researcher did warn that application of CBD is dependent on the level of dosage. In the research, they noticed that CBD was more effective in hair regrowth when smaller doses were applied.
